Solar power is energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy. Solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source available.

Solar Panels

Solar panels are devices used to convert direct sun incident rays to Electricity. The Cells are arranged in a grid-like pattern on the surface of a panel.

Most Panels are made up of crystalline Silicon Solar cells which are either of the following:

Monocrystalline – made from a cylindrical silicon ingot. They have an octagonal shape

Polycrystalline – made from Several crystals of silicon. They have a square shape

Thin Film – made from one or more thin layers or thin film of Photovoltaic material on a substrate such as glass

Half Cell arrangement – Helps to improve shading loss

Full Cell arrangement

The different types of cells described are usually arranged on a panel as a Full cell. However recent advances in technology have introduced several arrangements of cells to improve efficiency

Bifacial module arrangement – Helps to increase energy harvest by harnessing both incident and reflective rays of the sun as it hits the surface.

Tiling Ribbon arrangement – Helps to eliminate cell gaps thereby improving the efficiency of the Solar Panel.

Solar Cells have a variety of applications for Electricity Generation
